The OpenServo v3 shares some similarities with the v2 but it has also new features and some changes.
One of the new features that was not implemented in the v2 is the temperature measuring. This is made by the thermistor MCP9701A like it is shown in the next picture.
The v3 offers a new feature to measure the speed without the need of any additional sensor. This measurement is made taking into account the BEMF (Back ElectroMotive Force). This measurement is send to the microcontroller where the speed control is made.
An active braking is also provided in the v3. To provide that braking, both PWM signals are made low and both EN_A and ENB are brought high, which grounds both sides of the motor.
Both versions measure the current in the same way and send it to the microcontroller.
The way to obtain information of position is made in both versions is equal. They obtain the position with a simple circuit with a potentiometer.
Also a control of the battery voltage is made either in v2 and v3 like is shown in the next picture.
Conclusions:
In comparison with the v2 the v3 permits the temperature and speed measure and also provides an active braking. This version maintains the current, position and the battery voltage and the way to obtain them.
