MOTIVATION STATEMENT TO WORK AT ERSILIA

Hi, I'm Harsheen and I'm from India. Currently I'm enrolled in Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, where I am pursuing a bachelors in technology in Computer Science with specialization in Artificial Intelligence. I've always loved creating things from scratch and combining it with tech, ranging everything from mini-robots running on solar cells to learning how to code the classic snake game. I live for the euphoric high we get when our efforts are translated into successful results.

The two major reasons I decided to contribute to Ersilia are -

1. The Cause - As mentioned on Ersilia's official website - "We use data science and machine learning to support researchers working in low-resourced settings. Together, we develop tools to speed up experiments and reduce the cost to develop new drugs." To say this is a noble cause would be an understatement. Being an advocate for using technology for the greater good, I find myself aligned with the goals of your organization. Also, every single year India deals with diseases such as the dengue fever which has costed numerous lives. As a person living in a developing country it becomes all the more pertinent to work towards a solution for our community.

2. The Approach - I want to be a machine learning engineer and what better way than contributing and hopefully becoming a part of your organization. Since the past year I've focused on deepening my understanding of Artificial Intelligence. I started with basics of python and data science and made several projects ranging from wine quality detection to image classifiers using convolutional neural networks.

Although I'm just a beginner in the world of tech but I'm a fast learner and I would love to be part of your organization and the open source community.
