For metamaterials with negative epsilon values, it might be that a negative magnetic permeability is required aswell. The magnetic permeability is always assumed to be the free space value in FDTD, so if that's the case the results won't be physical. Also, a epsilon below 1 would be unphysical, as the speed of the light then would exceed the vacuum speed of light
