What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Update to the latest version (4.4.1.1 as of 20.02.2016) of TalkBack.
2. Open TalkBack's settings.
3. Activate the command to launch the "Explore by touch" tutorial.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The "Explore by touch" tutorial should start. Instead, an error message stating
that TalkBack has stopped working appears, TalkBack freezes (stops responding)
and the user must activate the "OK" button in the dialog in order for TalkBack
to resume its normal operation.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The testing is done on a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini (SM-G800F) running Android
4.4.2 (stock Samsung ROM) and TalkBack 4.4.1.1. The phone's language is set to
"Bulgarian", but it turns out that it doesn't matter - the issue is
reproducible with Android in "English (United States)" as well. The TTS engine
used also doesn't matter.
Please provide any additional information below.
A friend of mine just got a new phone with a newer version of Android and she
wanted to play around with the "Explore by touch" tutorial. As soon as she
tried to launch the tutorial from within TalkBack's settings, TalkBack crashed
with the standard "TalkBack stopped" error message with the two buttons ("OK"
and "Report"). I was able to reproduce the issue as well. Once I managed to
press "OK" thanks to my residual vision and TalkBack resumed working. The
second time however, even though I pressed "OK", TalkBack did not resume its
normal operation and I had to forcefully restart my phone by pressing and
holding the Volume Down key and the Power key together.
