The NASA folks ran into an issue where they created an alias name with a "/" in it and then couldn't get the Field using it from a State. It looks like other object names are restricted from containing a "/" in ESMCI_Base.C, so the alias should have the same the same restriction. We should look through and make sure that that restriction is documented.
