The Python 3 code is now in the v2.0.0 Release. I improved the:

installation instructions with necessary LaTeX and Python packages and additional instructions.
some minor fixes in the documentation, pycalcal.pdf (and woring figures generation)
all the tests run successfully (needed more than changes to _builtin_, i.e. change of behaviour in Python's filter)

Packaging and submission to PyPI next
