This is cherry-pick of upstream https://github.com/crosstool-ng/crosstool-ng/pull/1133, which fixes build on FreeBSD (same symptom as reported in upstream PR, so it's probably a wider issue).

Thanks! I saw many useful changes were made in 1.24 ct-ng, we're going to move our branch to upstream in follow-up release
