I was always trying to not modify firefox search engines from intantfox options dialog, but this review https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/instantfox/reviews/415242/ makes the point, that it was wrong. Also using ff bookmarks for storing search engines, we'll get sync for free.
