Some preparatory work was done for this in https://github.com/estuary/connectors/pull/1135. So, ideally that would be merged before this was worked on, see https://github.com/estuary/connectors/blob/622cf554fef59c91cc5be04f03b7b7abbac234c7/materialize-boilerplate/apply.go#L35-L38
