Plans to improve the analysis

Introduction

We will shorten the Introduction, especially we will remove the part of Jersey Hierarchy and Team as we will not discuss it in the analysis. We will also talk about the history of Tour De France briefly in the introduction as our analysis is to emphasize things we can learn through the history of Tour The France.

Data Description

We also would add some part of data description that has not been covered yet in the previous analysis, namely, the subsection of missing value handling and the limitation of the data.

Analysis

We combine some of the questions into one question such as “Are elite riders similar?” “Which way is age going?”, “How has age impacted overall results?” and “Does it matter where you’re from?” into one question "What are the characteristics of those winner riders?"

New questions

New questions to be answered in this analysis are:

• How does the distance and speed of the Tour de France change?
• Is the Tour de France becoming more competitive?

Plan For Analysis Steps

In addition, in doing the analysis, we would like to use some plots.

We will reproduce some of the plots from the previous analysis, but we will change the type of the plots. We would also like to use new variables in the analysis.

The detailed plan for the analysis is as follows:

• For the characteristics of the winners over the time, we would like to make the visualization of the age of the winner, their Body Mass Index (BMI), their nationality, and their team, to be in a subsection called “Characteristics of The Winner”. We will change the Figure 5 and 6 from the previous analysis to be bar charts. We would also make a new plot for the BMI. Note that in the previous analysis, the team only used the weight and height of the riders. For the current analysis, we combine the two variables together as a new variable which is BMI, and we would use BMI plotted against the time. This hopefully would give a new insight into how the BMI associated with the speed of the riders.
• We would analyze the competitiveness of Tour De France through history using the variable of “Time Margin”. This variable actually could give us insight of how competitive the tour is. Previous analyses have not used this variable.
• We would use the variable of speed and distance from the beginning of the Tour de France until the latest period provided in the data. We would use line plots and we would try to investigate the existence of lurking variables in this matter.
