The following points were improved upon from the original report done by team magpie :

  1. To start with, the previous team had made countless grammatical mistakes in the report. There were mistakes in spellings, punctuation and grammar which we have corrected.

  2. In the datasets provided, there were a lot of missing values which were not dealt by them. We removed the missing values and also displayed the percentage of missing values in each data set.

  3. In figure 5.1, we used two distinct plots to showcase the distribution of tuition fees over 2-year courses and 4-year courses separately as compared to a single plot used by the team originally. Also, to make comparison easier we added a probability density histogram and density plot to depict fees paid by residents and non residents.

  4. In figures 5.2 to answer the question of how much burden a student takes we have used the net_cost variable and and we have displayed the grant/scholarship earned in a separate figure 5.3 altogether. We also figured out that the courses offered were on campus and off campus and have shown it separately which was not done by the previous team.

  5. In figure 5.4, originally sum of the improvement was used which we changed and used the average improvement to make better comparison and also ordered them to be able to distinguish better.

  6. In table 5.5, we changed the parameter to show universities showing a growth of more than 75% which earlier was 0.75.

  7. In figure 5.6, we have again used the average instead of sum of the variable make_world_a_better_place and reordered according to the mean to be able to draw inferences from the plot easily.

  8. In figure 5.7, we used a letter value plot instead of a conventional box plot which the previous team had used as it is provides a better representation of outliers.

  9. We included 2 new research questions and have answered them both to the best of our abilities. Research Question 1 Does paying high tuition guarantee a higher salary? Which college has more potential in career growth on the basis of initial salary offered? This question explores the relationship between tuition cost and career growth. Research Question 2. Are all States and universities accommodative of students of different ethnic and economic backgrounds?
To answer this question, the proportion of the total minority community and affordability level of universities is explored .

We used a matrix scatter plot which was taught in week 6 to answer research question 1 by exploring the correlation between the concerned variables and a leaflet map to answer the other research question.

  1. Overall, we have restructured the report a little and also added a table of contents to enable a smooth browsing experience throughout the report.
