After discussing some of the ways to improve the report with Helen, I have these suggestions to improve upon the existing report on Spotify Music by team "wallaby" -
Add "visdat" visuals that I personally feel gives a better understanding of the dataset.
Make an interactive table to showcase variables in data. Remove redundant date range mentions. Keep the data description and structure explanation concise and interactive. Make these sections more tidy and presentable.
Mention what the “Total” column is about in the "Top Artists" table. Explain that it is the count of the total number of songs written by a particular artist.
Use a different plot to express track popularity since radar and pie charts are hard to conceive for a non-technical person. Also, the eyes are first attracted to the most colorful radars rather than the most popular since they are dull in color even though they’re popular. This might give the wrong impression to the reader unless they read the description in detail. The radar plot looks colorful but too overwhelming as well.
We can explain that Coldplay, despite being a little negative has been very popular and convey that people want more of what they can relate to than positivity from the songs they listen to.
Color the genres in "Popularity by Decade" plot. Make one facet have the year and the legend to have genres. This makes it easy to analyze what was popular during which decade.
An additional question that I thought would be useful is -
What exactly makes artists stand out even when there are artists doing the same kind of music? What is the Unique Selling Point (USP) of a few particular selected artists?
Steps planned to answer the Proposed Question -
Pick a particular genre. Compare artists within that genre. Evaluate what their USP is in terms of the audio features. Learn if they make similar songs or experiment with their talent. Justify what audio features make them unique.
