Hi Peaches!

Just watched your presentation. Good job!

One thing that I'm curious about now: You mentioned that most woylie sightings were in the spring, in the early analysis in the report. But when you analysed the tourism data you also noticed that the holiday tourists were highest in Q3, which is spring. However, you didn't make the connection between your early finding and the tourism pattern. Why not?

Hi Dianne,

Thankyou so much for taking the time to review our presentation and apologies to have missed your opened issue.

With respect to your question, while you correctly pointed out that the tourism pattern and the Woylie sightings appear to be highest during the spring season, however, we were concerned whether we should state that as a result of the following:

  1. The location of interest (Narrabri regions) has only been a home to the Woylies very recently in the year of 2022 (majorly due to conservation efforts where these endangered animals were translocated from WA to NSW). Hence, there was a sudden spike in the number of sightings within that region but for a very short period of time.

  2. For the Narrabri regions, the holiday tourists in the year of interest was only for Quarter 3. However, going by just the data of one year, we felt it might not be appropriate to comment whether there is indeed a correlation between the number of tourists and the Woylie sightings.

  3. Figure 17 illustrates the trend line graph of Woylie Sightings in Narrabri Surrounds as well as the holiday tourists in the region for the year of 2022. While there were Woylie sightings in this region during quarter 3, there were infact a lot more sightings in quarter 4 aswell but there were no tourists recorded in the region in that period.

The reasons above allowed us to conclude that there is a requirement of further analysis and data to ascertain the tourism pattern and any consequent correlation with the Woylie sightings.
