Project Status #75

Open peterlobster opened 2 years ago

peterlobster commented 2 years ago

@eth-p Hey man, hope all is well. Just wanted to know what the status of the project was. batman seems unusable in it's current state, but it seems there hasn't been anything done in a year; so I wanted to know if this was something you're still interesting in moving forward...or if maybe someone else was, if you're not?

Hey! Thanks for getting in touch @peterlobster!

The project isn't necessarily abandoned, but I haven't had much time to work on it (or many of my other projects) recently. Life events including school, curricular school clubs, and work have unfortunately left me with very little time or energy to work on my own code.

I honestly feel pretty guilty about it all, and I've been trying to work on my mental health and get into the habit of doing a better job managing my time. If you or anyone else would like to help with bat-extras as a maintainer in the meantime (and carrying forward if you would like), I would be delighted to accept help with that!

@eth-p Thanks for checking in with us, as I had a similar concern to @peterlobster .

I, for one, would be happy to help out with this project.

I'll start keeping tabs on it, as I use it quite often (and I maintain them for Gentoo).

Hope to see you around here, mate. Take care of yourself.

@ran-dall I'm not familiar with Gentoo, but if you have install instructions for it, I would be happy to add them to the README :)

ran-dall commented 2 years ago

@eth-p NP. I had them in my personal repo, but I just merged them to Guru, since they're working now.

Now as for the instructions...

Gentoo

bat-extras is available on Gentoo's Guru Overlay as sys-apps/bat-extras.

To install, first make sure you've added the Gentoo Guru Overlay to your local repositories, then emerge accordingly...

# emerge sys-apps/bat-extras

Awesome, thanks @ran-dall!

Added in commit https://github.com/eth-p/bat-extras/commit/7603d7b22c573794040cfc4849bff6306346d200 38014ba72d70599c04414a52b8bd9c3c120662a9 :)

Since I think it's clear the project will continue, one way or another, it's okay to just close this.
