Hi,

I downloaded Ethereum desktop wallet first time to learn smart contract programming. And forgot that I was on Rinkeby test network. And sent this 0.5 Ether from my coin base account to this test network wallet. If the wallet address was not a valid Ethereum main network wallet, then I guess the transaction would bounce off and my Ether would not be sent. But unfortunately this Rinkeby test network wallet appears to be valid Ethereum main network wallet of developer who have created this Ethereum desktop wallet. So the transaction went through and I lost my Ether. If this is any of your dev team's wallet address, can you please kindly send me back my Ether?

Please check my transaction here. https://etherscan.io/address/0x7bFe1880F5887Cfc52ADde329a823A3022f0ffBf

Thanks,

I have the same exact issue. Sent 9 ETH from coinable wallet by accident to the Rinkeby test network. Is there anyway I can retrieve this?

I didn't get any response to my posting or to my emails. I guess the Ethereum desktop wallet is intentionally designed to swindle money from newcomers who do these common mistakes. And to deter them from learning the Ethereum skills. It is a bad practice. And we should raise awareness of this issue by posting in online communities.

actually I was able to figure out how to get the coin in my main network wallet: https://github.com/ethereum/mist/issues/3191

Thanks Phesami. You helped me get back my 0.5 ETH.

Actually, it doesn't sound correct that a test environment wallet can hold real ETH along with test ETH. But it worked. I am detailing my process here so it is helpful to others.

I used myetherwallet.com and selected 'Send Ether & Tokens' option and uploaded the UTC file from my [Ethereum desktop wallet folder]\rinkeby\keystore\UTC--... file and provided wallet password. It showed my 0.5ETH balance. I sent the ETH to my ETH wallet address in exchange. It showed transfer amount as 0.49955900 after deducting gas cost. It came through successfully in my exchange wallet after 50 block confirmations.
