Can you please instruct or make a short video for the demo? #7

Hallo I am Huy, from Vietnam. I am doing a thesis on this topic and i wonder if you can help me to show me a bit ( with demo data) how the tool work? Thank you!

Hello Huy, Yes, I do wish I had the time to make a proper tutorial. Right now, I simply don't. Try this first, open CrossSectionDemo.mxd. Select a line feature from 'cross sections'. From the toolbox, open 'Create surface profiles' and fill it out:

'Lines to be converted to profiles' = cross_sections

'DEM' = psdem_2005_15m, not the hillshade.

'Begin measuring lines from' is explained in the 'Tool Help' window that expands to the right.

Vertical exaggeration = Seattle doesn't have a huge elevation range, bump it up to 5 or more.

'Plot profiles with respect to...' is explained in Tool Help. For the Seattle example, you might select sections A through D from 'cross sections' and then select the Tacoma Fault Zone line from 'fault_100k'. Leave this unchecked if you don't want this kind of plot

'Single line layer' = fault_100k, for example, as explained if you have checked the box above.

You can create a brand new output feature class OR append into an existing feature class. One of those two options has to be filled out.

Add to data frame is explained in Tool Help.

The next tool to try out would probably be the 'Create segmented surface profile' for which you also need a layer of polygons that underlie the line of cross section. This makes a feature class that will look just like the single line of the surface profile, but the profile is, in fact, made up of contiguous lines where each line has inherited the attributes of the polygon underneath it. Symbolize this feature class in a way so that you can differentiate each line and that is the starting point from which to start interpreting the subsurface geology.

The rest of the tools add additional features to the cross section view that might help with subsurface interpretation; boreholes as sticklogs, structural measurements as oriented tadpoles, intersections with other line (faults, other sections, etc) as point or lines, etc. I'm afraid you will just have to investigate on on your own. Seattle Geology mxd has all of the properly attributed features to run those tools.
