…extend control plot script 3) add subplot_tight for tighter plotting (e.g. used in control plots now)

@acfloria PR just because it is a larger change... Feel free to squash/rebase-merge as soon as you think it is OK.

Tested with the FAT log file. See comment on why this does not work above.
