I tried the same thing on an iPad simulator (iPad 7th generation iOS 13.3) and autofocus is working properly.

daileytj commented 4 years ago

Tested in the simulator and on iPhone safari and it seems to work fine. However, when testing on an old iPad mini (2nd gen ios 9.3.5) I could reproduce this issue. Looks like it could have been an ios issue https://github.com/mui-org/material-ui/issues/9034. It would be nice to have this tested on a newer physical iPad device.

Tested out again and is issue with new physical iPad. (chrome & safari) From previous findings (need to find) this is the expected behavior. limitation of iOS that doesn't allow auto focus on text field on iPad.
