Have a list of currently available rooms viewable by users #27

Heya!

I noticed some of the (mods?) having to let people know that they could test in &test room and thought it would be cool to have a viewable list of rooms currently available that users could peruse and click to join.

Sorry if this a dup feature request. I did not see any other requests that looked anything like this.

Cheers!

I think that there is a reason that this feature does not exist. Several of the rooms house some communities that are just not ready for loads of people to come storming in.

I think an opt-in public list of rooms would be great!

jedevc commented 9 years ago

Hm. Couldn't this be done using a bot? Or would it be worth having a special UI feature?

ckingdev commented 9 years ago

Definitely could be done as a bot, if only to prototype.

Here's a kind of related question about bots: can they be hosted on the euphoria server itself? If the bot is very tightly connected with functionality? Say like this room list bot.

ckingdev commented 9 years ago

Not currently. There's been some discussion of having euphoria-hosted bots but I don't think that will happen soon (if at all). There are some free options for hosting a bot- I use an Amazon ec2 free tier instance and a DigitalOcean instance that I got credit for via https://education.github.com/pack

There are a lot of common rooms that everyone does know or should know. Is it possible to maybe put some of them on a static page?

logan commented 8 years ago

If someone wants to put together a new static page, I'm happy to help guide and merge that change. Or, we could set up a wiki page, but that's hard to find.

I'll try and pull something together at some point. Is there any way that I should make sure that it's ok to include a room? Asking the inhabitants should be fine right?
