Redesign client frontpage #12

The way the country groupings are presented on the frontpage is not very good. The headers cross-fade between all languages. This is very cute, but it means that 90% of the time I the titles are not understandable for me. And when they do show in a language I can understand I only have a bit over a second to read all of them before they change to something unreadable again. Thinking as a user I do not think this is a good experience.

As a more general question I am wondering if the grouping of countries into EU member states, EFTA countries, candidate EU members and potential EU candidate countries is useful for users. Is there a relevant use case where the grouping is needed? My personal gut feeling is that the grouping it not useful at all, and thus the changes introduced via issue #1, #2 and #4 should be reverted.

Assigning to @pilz since this needs coordination with the agency before we can do anything. We need to know what the underlying requirements are so @cornelis can come up with a better approach.

I posed that question in https://syslab.com/proj/issues/3175.

The problem has been understood and we have been asked to make a proposal. They are themselves thinking in the direction of using a map instead of flags at the moment.

Also a problem has been spottet. While it is correct that no end user should ever fill in the EU questionnaire, access to them through the client is somehow necessary to test what the editor built in the CMS and for other editors to see if they want to copy from it.

That is not a problem: a preview can be generated for those surveys. That works today.

Yes, but how should other sectors discover them if not through the client interface?

wichert commented 11 years ago

@pilz is this still relevant?

pilz commented 11 years ago

no, we have circumvented this problem for osha by using a custom entry page managed on a separate system
