Free text comment Like EuropassCredential also Open Badges are Verifiable Credentials . To capture more forms of informal learning within Europass a mapping with Open Badges is useful so EDCI wallets could understand also the data coming from Open Badges. The upcoming Badge Connect API would also allow to connect more easily with the badges of recipients in any backpack that they are currently stored which would help the adoption of Europass in the field of formal recognition of informal learning and connects it to the possibility of making also informal recognition more visible.

Official position of the European Commission on this ticket:

The Commission launched Europass Digital Credentials (EDC) in public preview on 1 July 2020 and a full launch for the infrastructure is expected by end 2020. The Commission is grateful for the commitment of those 18 countries that have piloted EDC and welcomes the global interest and support for the initiative.

The priorities for the Commission for 2021 will be to support wide implementation of EDCI at all levels of education and training. The Commission will support the needs of credentials issuers by:

· Continuing to support countries to issue NQF qualifications as EDC

· Promoting the Europass Learning Model as the European standard to describe all forms of learning achievements.

· Developing a revocation mechanism for cases of annulled or revoked credentials

· Developing an archive wallet for credential issuers to search, filter and manage the credentials they issue

· Providing further technical support for issuers including documentation and bespoke templates for specific types of credentials (e.g. Diploma Supplement, Certificate Supplements)

The Commission acknowledges the numerous requests from countries and stakeholders to support compatibility between EDC and Open Badges. The Commission is committed to supporting recognition of all forms of learning including Open Badges.

During 2021, the Commission will begin exploratory work on how Europass can better support recognition of non-formal and informal learning. This will include analysis of how EDC can support micro credentials and learning achievements such as Open Badges.

On first glance at the Europass system I think it would be better for them to do this in a W3C compliant way and stop building this monstrosity.
