Is it possible to download the files to a watch folder for automatic import

Yes, if you run it in "server" mode there are options to save the files to a specific folder.

./openbooks server --persist --dir ~/Downloads/MyBooks

This will save all downloaded books to ~/Downloads/MyBooks.
