Good question. We do have a plan to release core framework and components and make the app fully open to the community. But, to be honest, we are not there yet and there is a lot of work to do before we can make it public. Please be patient while we are on the way from the first step.
Thanks for the response!
I do have to say that's a rather disappointing answer. The community already has tons of development work underway, feature requests, and bug requests, and they're basically being forced to reinvent the wheel just to match feature parity with the core application.
I'm not sure why ER doesn't want to take advantage of this basically free development work that their user base is begging for to dramatically speed up the inclusion of new features.
It's just going to fragment the community and force them to centralize around other open source projects, rather than the supported path that ER is attempting to provide.
I'll hope you'll reconsider releasing even just a current dump of the application without continuing support to as ER continues developing in a closed source fashion.
I think we should give the dev team a break tbh
This isn't going to be an overnight thing. Honestly just the fact that they're doing it in the next 12-24 months is awesome of them.
Please keep in mind they likely have a small team, and that team is
You can't just flip a switch and open source code. You need to make sure it's in a state that won't damage the product or company when it's released. Imo we should just be supportive of them and try and limit our requests for now while they get the house squared away.
I know it may not be worth much but I do second this thought there are many of us itching to get going.
Rather than having all of these people build completely stand alone apps ( or decompile the APKs ), can we release the core application and have things be added as PRs (with approval of course)?
I'm not sure what long term plans are for handling open source code, but something like the flipper zero where it has a community app store integrated would be super sweet to see ( https://flipperzero.one/downloads ).
Looking at the discord (https://discord.gg/DmYzn7pc) development has become so fragmented already, that it would be rad to see ER get more involved to centralize this community.
I know its a big ask, but I'd like to float the question before things take off.
