Friday night pre-camp event #4

Copied from 2013 trello board

Not sure if that's visible on the sketchnotes photo, but the pre-event event idea is about introducing people to each other, having fun and games, talking to others about your talk idea or looking for an inspiration, etc. If someone was planning a workshop, then on that pre-event thing they could tell people what to bring.

We were thinking of something last year and ended up concluding that if people wanted, they could just go to a pub together. Maybe this time we could just point out that 'there's a pub, go there' or something. I think we also considered sponsoring drinks, but decided it would be better to sponsor them after the event instead. Falka

Perhaps this could 'just' be a beer at an assigned pub? Every year there's about at dozen people who arrive the night before from abroad Sjors

Great idea.

One thought is: I attended the pre-event for Handheld last night. It wasn't bad but it was very formal with lots of talks. A few of us skipped out early cos we wanted something a bit more relaxed and the ability to hang out and chat.

I saw that the pre-event for Handheld was pretty structured. Not ~necessarily~ a bad thing, but I think sometimes people just want to chill out. People travelling in, maybe tired (as I'm sure a lot of you were) and just wanted to wind down before the next day of lots of focusing and listening.

Maybe just a pub thing. People can chat about what they want to do, or just chat in general. I'm not a huge fan of the very very formal (in case you haven't noticed!).
