Torrents Not Working #1012

I noticed Mylar was downloading the torrent data and placing them in the folder uTorrent watches but uTorrent wasn't loading them. I tried to add them manually but I get "Torrent Is Not Valid Bencoding". I tried getting the torrent directly from the source (Kickass.to) and it works but the torrent Mylar is grabbing is not working. Happening on every new release today.

It's possible the link that mylar was trying to download was invalid. Some of my grabs this a.m. came from KAT and didn't have any problems.

Can you post the mylar.log file portion of the log showing the snatch and the send to your watch folder?

Also are you using a proxy address for kat at all?

Sorry that's the GUI log, not the mylar.log file. The log files are located in your logs directory within the root of mylar.

That log is from 2013 lol.. You need to find the current log files, as I need to see the debugging information to figure out what's happening.

You're gonna love this, the log posted is just showing the folder check running, not the torrent search/send. If you do a manual search for one of the pullist issues and it goes to kat the mylar.log will have the information in it (otherwise it will be in the numbered mylar.log files)

Ok I think I see what's going on.. The KAT link should be just the hash/id of the torrent, but it's feeding in the entire url line. It might be because you don't have rss feeds enabled and my testing of the direct search wasn't as thorough.

I'll have to test this and see how easy of a fix it is.

You're missing one/two lines from the log that are present in the development build, but not in the master (or if you haven't updated the development branch yet).

Can you confirm the branch/commit you're running currently ?

I haven't been able to confirm this as I can't reproduce it at all, but I think it might have something to be do with the https.

Can you try something? Shutdown mylar and edit your config.ini. Find the entry that's labelled kat_proxy and set it to http://katproxy.com (so it's : kat_proxy = http://katproxy.com). Save the config, and startup mylar and hopefully see if you don't get the errors.

If you don't then that's what it is and you'll have to wait until I get a patch up, but then you can use the unblockme proxy address and you'll get your torrents until then at least.

Try adding an ending slash to the URL. I can't remember if it parses it or not.

Is there anything in the mylar.log file?

Can you throw one of those failed torrent files somewhere for me to grab?

I've just tried doing the exact same issue from KAT as you, directly from KAT search (no RSS enabled), and sending it to a watch directory. And on both Ubuntu and Windows 8, it downloaded fine with no errors.

Are you able to get to torcache.net - I just read about ISP's blocking torcache directly, but that was in the UK.

How are you accessing kat.cr via your web-browser? ie. are you going through a VPN or something ?

Try setting your watch directory to a different directory. Then after mylar drops the file in there, move it to the watch folder (or try to manually add it).

I can't duplicate this at all, and I pulled from KAT successfully today too so I'm abit unsure of what could be the problem.

I'll try sideload in that torrent you posted and see, but I doubt it will work with rtorrent either (bad torrent is a bad torrent).

EDIT: OK, so I checked out the torrent file, it says it's a 404 - not found. It's possible that it's pulling a dead link for some reason from torcache.net. Have you tried a recent issue from today to see if its still happening?

Also what version of python are you currently running?

I'm running Windows 7 and Python 2.7.6. The issue is still ongoing this week.

Then it's your version of python, mylar now uses the requests library to receive nzbs/torrents, and based on a lot of posts it seems to be anything less than 2.7.7 causes some issues for certain people.

Can you try to upgrade your python to at least 2.7.8? (2.7.9 would be ideal)

Only python > 2.7.7 has SNI support, which is what is used by a lot of sites that use shared hosting or use cloudflare (https) . It involves the ssl certificate resolving to the proper site, and without SNI enabled it fails as it returns the shared hosting site instead (very rough explanation).

Hi, I've been getting the same error. I saw that my Python was 2.7.6 and then downloaded the 2.7.9 version. It hasn't fixed my problem though. On a side note, is there a way to disable the automatic folder creation?

@Schwalbi: What are you trying to grab - torrents/nzbs? And from what provider?

Auto-folder creation can't be disabled as then file-checking and status checks won't work properly - but if you just want to lump everything into one dir then you can set your Comic Location to: C:\Documents\ and your Folder Format to: Comics\ (which would dump everything into C:\Documents\Comics\ as an example). If your folders are already in a specific format, then mimic the format in the Folder Format field so that all new folders will line up with your existing structure (more or less)

You mean KAT? Are you using a proxy to get to KAT within mylar (can you access kat.ph normally?)

Logs might be helpful in figuring out what exactly your problem is, as you haven't indicated what is happening exactly.

Yeah, I meant KAT. I'm getting the same problem as gamergeekv2: "I noticed Mylar was downloading the torrent data and placing them in the folder uTorrent watches but uTorrent wasn't loading them. I tried to add them manually but I get "Torrent Is Not Valid Bencoding". I tried getting the torrent directly from the source (Kickass.to) and it works but the torrent Mylar is grabbing is not working."

I don't know where to access kat.ph and I don't know which logs you need.

Can you access kat via a Web browser on the machine running mylar?

Are you sure you're running mylar with python 2.7.9 still? (in the configuration/general tab it will say the python build as well as the mylar build/commit - both of which are important)

Logs are in the logs/ directory of your mylar directory and labelled mylar.log to mylar.log.5.

How do you run mylar - as a daemon or via the command line.

Normally if you have more than one python on your system you have to call it like python2.7 or something, although in this case I'm guessing you're running it as a daemon, so you'd have to edit the startup script so that it points to the correct python location on your system.

Ok when you installed mylar, how did you install it (git or source or some other way) and/or did you do anything to make sure it starts on startup? If it crashes or the system is turned on, how do you start mylar?

I did the plist option. I open Terminal and just type in "python" and hit enter. Then it shows which version I'm running.

Alright, so then the plist script is pointing to the wrong python - according to the script it's running python from /usr/bin/python2.7

So you need to find out where the python 2.7.9 is on your system and change the plist script so that it points to that directory. It's probably /usr/bin/python but you need to make sure before you edit the script and save the changes.

Does OSX have a whereis command from the terminal like Linux does? (ie. whereis python)

It does! I tried it and I got back "/usr/bin/python" as you said. I am going to need some guidance on the editing of the script though.

Just reverse the process you used to create the file:

sudo nano /Library/LaunchDaemons/mylar.plist

Then in the script, replace: /usr/bin/python2.7

with: usr/bin/python

Ctrl + x, then Y and Enter to save the changes, restart your system and mylar should start with 2.7.9 (verify it on the configuration / general tab)

You need to have the slash at the beginning of the path (unless it was cut out from the paste).

Otherwise you might have to ask on the how-to link you posted earlier - I really don't know much about OSX things unfortunately.. But once that's fixed, mylar should work with torrents again (that stuff I do know about).

You restarted your OS after the change right?

If you're in a terminal and you type in :

/usr/bin/python

Is it 2.7.9 or 2.7.6 that comes up?

So then it's not /usr/bin/python but somewhere else. You'll have to do the whereis command and then issue each path as a command (like you just did with the /usr/bin/python) and see which one opens up 2.7.9 and then put that path in the plist file.
