Apologies for never replying to your pull-request. This plugin has been a little bit abandoned for several years as I haven't been involved in web development so much.
I'm afraid that even after 4 years(!) I'm not going to merge your pull-request however. Whilst I agree with your motivation for every change, I think that this takes the source code too far beyond the "vanilla" bootstrap carousel. This plugin is a very lightweight and simple tool only intended to mimic that functionality, and I think quite a lot of users (myself included) assume that the output will be the same as that in the Bootstrap documentation.
