The problem is that some LOLIN/WEMOS boards have a weak board power layout, and wifi gets unstable if running on full radio strength, especially in AP Mode. In worst case, the radio shuts down and the board is not reachable any more.
On my -S2 board the wifi was not running reliably without this patch.
