I've been having this error when trying to download a subtitle for movies since a day or two ago. How do I fix this?

dominiquevilain commented 4 years ago

Same issue for me. Any clue ?

heynando commented 4 years ago

same here. how to solve?

Trisky commented 4 years ago

It seems that the useragent is being rejected or something like that by the server. Tried changing the useragent in the code for Chrome's one but didn't help.

Just register on https://www.opensubtitles.org and provide your username and password for the addon in the Show config menu.

StarCaller commented 4 years ago

yep, signed in, problem solved / thanks!

Thanks for sharing @elmerenges, even applying the credentials (I did not have them before, I still get 401 Unauthorized.

@Trisky trying to access to wiki's address I get a 503, is it working for you the link? I would like to try with Postman the Same Request and get more info from there :)

Trisky commented 4 years ago

@dominguezcelada Yes, it indeed works for me now. Maybe it was down yesterday?

Sure thing trying the same request with postman would help debug the issue.

@Trisky Yes! Now https://trac.opensubtitles.org/projects/opensubtitles/wiki/XMLRPC link is working. Still getting 401. I will try to take a look this afternoon (Barcelona, Spain timezone) and give it a try with Postman. I will try to post whatever I find 💪

In case it's not obvious: you also must confirm your email address via the link in the OpenSubtitles.org Account Confirmation email. Works for me.

That's an important point @quinncomendant! But in my case, yes, I confirmed my account through the activation link.

Thanks for the point because it could be the reason for somebody having problems.

  • Tried doing it with https:// + port 443 but no luck. (adding my credentials of too).
  • I'm not being able to put Charles Proxy in the middle of VLC and MacOS to capture the exact request done by VLC. Any help or tool you may know to get that?

Also, I found this post on opensubtitles forum. Let's see if it's something on their end: https://forum.opensubtitles.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17115

I tried it today and it's working to me too! 🥳 🍾 🎉

What is mandatory for sure is to have set up the user and password for the configuration. Here you can find more details.

Thanks @quinncomendant, @Trisky and everybody for helping and assisting here!

@comesta I'm assuming you entered your user and password on vlsubs's config, right?

@comesta @koullis22 One idea that comes to my mind is to assure the user and password you are introducing on vlsub are the right ones. This could be one of the reasons you still get this issue.

Also, make sure you have the latest vlsub and VLC versions

I am using Mac, and when I click on Show Config, the VLSub popup just disappears and nothing happens. If I try to open VLSub again, VLC crashes. Does anyone have a solution for Mac?

👍 latest version, 🆒

I don't see this version on vlsub releases. The one I'm using which is the latest stable is 0.10.2. You need to get your extesion get installed properly so you see the Show Condig button to introduce your credentials. On Mac looks like this:

-Yes still logged in opensubtitles

To me happens randomly sometimes, but I don't think is the same bug as the one we are talking about. Maybe you should open a new issue or find an existing one with this issue? :)

Mmm... not sure. I think this extension is independent from VLC releases. In my case I had v0.9 (I'm using Mac) and upgraded to 0.10.2 just in case. Checking the changelog on vlsub's I don't see any 0.11 version. Maybe you can try to remove vlsub extensions you have and isntall 0.10.2?

koullis22 commented 4 years ago

just added 10.2 also but no success again..even changed password.still get the same error.

0.11 file is named "VLSub.luac"

Where are you downloading the versions from? If you download it from here. The file is .lua not .luac (I don't know Lua programming language so not sure the difference, I guess one is compiled and the other not).

Nice source @elmerenges ! Seems that there is a more up to date version and there has been recent activity! I'm going to install it that one :)
