Spike: Which back-end to use?

We want to use as minimal of a back-end as possible, but we need to be able to do the following:

• Store most recent GTFS stop data
• Query to get the nearest 10-20 stops based on a given set of lat/on coordinates

If we can do the above without a back-end at all, then that would be great, but whatever we decide on, it has to be performant.
