Follow-up with Mike Skindell #10

Need to follow up with Mike Skindell and see if he is going to get the LLC amendment through the legislature

Called today 7/16 and left a message with the secretary. Ohio legislature was working on passing budget today, so Skindell was unavailable. I hope to hear back soon.

What did their press officer say about the LLC loophole? Was it included in the budget?

I haven't heard back. From my research, I couldn't find any evidence of any bill or amendment being proposed — only drafted. I was unable to find a bill number or anything.

Talked to Barb from Skindell's office this morning. She said Skindell offered the amendment in the finance committee (she had no date) and it was rejected there. I asked if any explanation was provided as to why, and she said no. She said that most Democratic amendments got dumped there. It did not make it into the budget.

More info from Barb: the amendment was not even included in the omnibus, so it wasn't even voted on to be tabled. Also, amendments generally only have one name of them; there are not multiple sponsors.

It basically means that they threw it straight into the trash and didn't bother to consider it later. She is looking for more info, so when she calls me back I can double check.

It was submitted to the chairman's office and they chose not to include it in the omnibus amendment. Barb said it was "dead on arrival."

Barb called me to tell me that the amendment we've been discussing is about the real estate tax, but that there is a SECOND one that is supposedly in the budget specifically for the LLC loophole. It has apparently caused some disagreement between the House and the Senate during budget talks. As of now, she said, it is largely preserved with some language changes. The amendment was put in by Speaker of the House Larry Householder. Lucia, I forwarded you the pdf.
