* Could be implemented using canvas and/or SVG.
* Would be nice if we could zoom and translate using scroll wheel and
click/drag (like google maps)

You might be able to just load a Wolfram|Alpha image or API in instead of
rendering it
yourself.

Also could benefit from Google Visualization API

Comment 3 could be addressed by solving Issue 52.

Perhaps something could be created where there's a tab up top Chromey that says
"plot" that, when clicked, takes you from the regular calculator to a new
screen that is more directly linked with W|A, maybe the mobile page
m.wolframalpha.com. I have seen extensions that switch "tabs" within the
extension (Google Calendar switching between Calendar and Agenda, for example)
and tabs that load mobile pages within them (Wikipedia, for example), so
perhaps this could be a stopgap for a better solution?

Appears my previous link is just an «app», so installing it actually just
gives you a link on the New Tab page, which in turn takes you to a website:
https://www.desmos.com/calculator/

And it's using Flash Player.

Looks like I implemented something similar to the suggestion by
andrewno..@gmail.com. (The 5.0 update included some changes to the codebase
made long ago that never went live)
