Chanterelle -- a more functional truffle

CLI Foundations #90

Closed martyall closed 5 years ago

martyall commented 6 years ago

We want a Chanterelle CLI. The command chanterelle seems too long, so it's also an open issue to come up with something, but for this issue I will use chanterelle. I've never made something like this, so all I can do is specify what I think is it's desired behavior.

We would also like that whatever solution we have, it's pretty obvious and easy to add new commands.

Perhaps @iostat can speak to what kind of work has already been done before we officially launch the issue.

Work has been started.

These users each claimed they can complete the work by 5 months, 2 weeks ago. Please review their action plans below:

1) bogdancondurache has applied to start work _(Funders only: approve worker | reject worker)_.

Firstly I would need all the commands properly defined so that I can understand what they should do and also to know what to write for the help command. I already have built some personal projects with a structure that makes it easy to embody and add different cli commands and scripts to execute at the time. I will also need to better understand your project structure to know how to integrate this feature in the project. It should take around a month, maybe less, it really depends a lot on the commands you need and what should they do. 2) raboid has applied to start work _(Funders only: approve worker | reject worker)_.

I run a software development firm that is committed to improving the Ethereum ecosystem. We are very interested in any truffle alternatives like your project. We could complete this CLI with thorough docs within a few days. Please email me if you have questions. 3) alireza29675 has applied to start work _(Funders only: approve worker | reject worker)_.

I have had several experiences in building node.js CLIs for various applications. So I have my tools to make it in the way you want it to be, with even a lower price. If you want me to do the work for you, just let me know;) 4) kevinkelley has applied to start work _(Funders only: approve worker | reject worker)_.

I'd like to do this. I'll start from an existing cli framework project that has command-line arguments parser and a TDD framework; this seems pretty straightforward and I can complete in a few days. 5) safareli has been approved to start work.

This is WIP which is almost finished https://github.com/f-o-a-m/chanterelle/pull/95

Just a small comment regarding my plan (it seems I can not edit it): if the scripts that should do the actions are done or at least part of the actions are done, it should take around a week.

martyall commented 6 years ago

For everyone who are coming from gitcoin, please be aware that this cli must be written in purescript like the rest of this project, or you would need to write bindings for your favorite npm cli toolkit package in a separate repository and import them

3ach commented 6 years ago

I'm happy to write mine in purescript.

bogdancondurache commented 6 years ago

@blinky3713 Sure, no problem!

spm32 commented 6 years ago

Awesome proposals everyone, it sounds like @Thimoteus has the most direct purescript experience though so we're going to go with him on this one, that said there are plenty of other open bounties to choose from!

Thimoteus commented 6 years ago

Awesome. If I have questions @ceresstation should I ask them here, or is there another preferred medium?

mkosowsk commented 5 years ago

@Thimoteus I think this post would be the best place to ask questions :)

Thimoteus commented 5 years ago

I notice this project is still using the old 0.11.7 version of the PS compiler. Are there any plans to update?

martyall commented 5 years ago

there are plans to update, but it would mean updating all of the purescript-web3-* stuff as well. That's definitely in the mix, but it probably won't happen until November because of our current workload. The prerequisite upgrades are to

  1. purescript-eth-core
  2. purescript-web3
  3. purescript-web3-generator

Also, i tried to contact you at your @berkley.edu email address I found on your site, but I'm not sure if you got it. I think it would be way easier to do a screen share some time in order to get you set up.

Thimoteus commented 5 years ago

It looks like there's a misspelling in the email domain; it's best to copy+paste. A screen-share sounds good.

How do I tell the bot we've been emailing?

mkosowsk commented 5 years ago

@Thimoteus just a comment like what you just did in the Github issue will snooze the bot 👍

mkosowsk commented 5 years ago

Hi @Thimoteus, how's the issue coming along? 👍

Thimoteus commented 5 years ago

Hi @mkosowsk, started out pretty slow because I'd need to ask a question each time I tried to start, but I think it's at a place where I can open a WIP PR pretty soon.

mkosowsk commented 5 years ago

@Thimoteus thanks for the update! :)

mkosowsk commented 5 years ago

Hi @Thimoteus, just a friendly check-in again 👍 How's the WIP PR coming? Thanks!

Thimoteus commented 5 years ago

@mkosowsk incoming in a few minutes, I tried to get it out yesterday but ran out of time in the morning.

spm32 commented 5 years ago

@Thimoteus any update on this? If we don't hear back by end of week we'll have to give it back to the crowd.

spm32 commented 5 years ago

Hi @raboid are you still interested in working on this by chance?

rabaut commented 5 years ago

Sorry @ceresstation I'm no longer available.

g-laz77 commented 5 years ago

Hi, I would like to work on this. @ceresstation can I take it up?
