Release 2023.8.9 CAT protocols #5

Open wk8s opened 1 year ago

wk8s commented 1 year ago

Under this full release (and test release) FX-RCR will connect to computer and logging software under TS-590S. However, frequency is NOT displayed on computer software even after changing frequency on radio. The radio will disconnect from the computer. There is only one way communication from computer to radio, where changing frequency on computer software will change it on radio. However, if mode is changed to SSB and back to CW, the frequency will now begin to show on computer software and can then be changed from the radio and be correctly changed on the computer software. If this mode change is done soon after first connection the radio will stay connected and will communicate with the computer software.

Hi Pete, the problem is that the TS-590S protocol doesn't know digital mode. When you use FT8CN it sends the radio a request to switch to USB. The radio has been modified to switch to DIG-U. If you use another software, the dialog is no longer correct. This explains the problem. The trick is to switch to CW or AM/FM and then back to USB. 73 de Daniel F5BUD

Hi Daniel,This what I suspected. Thanks for confirming it. In my case I do not do FT8 or other digital modes. primarily I do CW and some SSB. Now I know how to approach this for my usage.Thank you,Pete WK8S pmeier at me.comOn Aug 14, 2023, at 10:36 AM, Daniel Nespoulous @.***> wrote: Hi Pete,

Switching modes back and forth works sometime but not always. When you switch bands you must do this mode switching routine each time you change bands.
Hopefully these protocols will be corrected in the future. I understand Yu designed this radio for the digital modes but it's too nice a radio to be limited to just for digital when it comes to CAT and logging. It is getting better and better as time goes on. Pete WK8S

Hi Pete, the problem is that the TS-590S protocol doesn't know digital mode.

Not sure. In Kenwoods CAT-Manual for 590S/SG I see the command "SF" which has a parameter P3 as "mode". So I see if P3 is C the mode will be set as LSB-D and if P3 is D mode will be set as USB-D. If I understand correct, -D means DATA-Mode. Is this not the mode we need to set for Digi-Modes ???

Sorry I’m not person to ask. I don’t do Digital just CW and a little SSB. Pete WK8S pmeier at me.comOn Aug 21, 2023, at 3:00 PM, Heiko @.***> wrote:

Thanks Pete, that's interesting information, I'll look into it and see with Yu if anything can be done. 73 deDaniel

Ok, I'm Heiko, but's not important, hi.

Background: The real TS590S has issues with his DATA-Mode (DATA mode exists, yes, but with wrong IF filter setting, they are too small for full bandwith for FT8), so the User of real TS590S don't use this special setup and use the fonie modes with USB input as source. Such a setup is possible at the TS590S, if I remember right. A similiar problem I have with the FTdx-5000 and it's PKT-Mode (=DATA too), there are issues with IF filter settings too. Maybe the base setup of DATA modes came from older times where the world has made PSK31 and not FT8 like now :) But we haven't a real TS590S, we only use it's CAT commands/reference. So I see no problem, if the DIG_U and DIG_L from FX4 linked to TS590S USB_D and LSB_D. That will be done more clarity and and better attribution for Apps they use CAT like logsoft or, in my case, flrig. Btw, there are some issues in CAT of FX4 up to now, for instance if I set manually USB/Fonie the CAT says LSB (checked with the MD; command, wrong values came back). I will take some time to check the CAT at FX4, if there more issues we don't know or see up to now. I will write here my results if all will be finished.

For full command reference of TS590S/SG, here is the PDF: https://www.kenwood.com/i/products/info/amateur/pdf/ts590_g_pc_command_en_rev3.pdf
