ZFS Boot Drive #104

This is a feature request.

I would like if there would be a way to (a.) have a MacZFS GUI (instead of the
command line), and (b.) an option that would convert the current boot drive to
ZFS on the fly without losing data (and it would still be bootable and stay the
main drive).

(A) A GUI seems like a fine idea, actually.

(B) (1) HFS+ and ZFS are two very different filesystems on the disk, so you
cannot merely relable the HFS+ one and make it magically have ZFS stuff. You
would have to reformat. Your mileage may vary when it comes time to restoring
your data.

(2) The current implementation of maczfs doesn't support many important
features that are required to nicely work with Mac OS, such as Spotlight. Also,
many applications do not work properly on a case-sensitive filesystem. I am
sure you read the other issues.

(3) The mach_kernel cannot be read from a ZFS partition. If you know how to do
EFI programming, you can probably fake it by putting zfs.efi on the EFI
partition (`diskutil list`) and boot that way. Unlike the beta of Snow Leopard,
which I hear had RO ZFS support, released Snow Leopard doesn't even have /that/.

Probably never going to happen; moving to 'low enhancement'.

ZFS can be case-insensitive. That's not an issue.
