"ES IST" LEDs need replacement after 1.5 years? #9

The LEDs for "ES IST" on my wordclock (kit bought at 32c3) were barely recognizable anymore under normal lighting conditions as they became substantially darker over time and had to be replaced. Is this usual wear to be expected?

Good question, at least I can confirm this behavior.

Left hand side completely new clock (repaired this week), right hand side my 32c3 clock.
