Team questions/points to Julie & Colin

Logo, name, colour palette

  1. Should we use the colour palette and exact same logo of the Hanley Crouch website?
  2. Will the app be called Brickworks or something different (e.g. Brickworks - Cornerstone)?
  3. Will the app be incorporated in the Hanley Crouch website, e.g. as a link to a standalone site in the Hanley Crouch navbar?

    Content & data

  4. What types/categories of data will you give us? We would appreciate - and need - a precise list.
  5. Could you give us a sample of dummy data today, so that we can structure the app's database and layout?
  6. What concrete resources do you intend to provide to users who want to get involved?
  7. Will you provide an e-mail address to which users can submit a form to register interest?
  8. Will you add users who submit the form to a mailing list so that you can e-mail everyone who has expressed interest in a social action/project and help them to get together?
  9. [If you replied 'no' to the previous question] Is there a Facebook or similar closed group to which we can direct users who would like to get together with others for a project? Not ideal, but we need a virtual hub too for your ideas to materialise.

Notes

Our remit: web design and functionality

Content & data

sunuwars commented 5 years ago

Ref to Content & Data

  1. Will you provide an e-mail address to which users can submit a form to register interest? I personally feel this to be a very useful feature, users can always see the address, phone number in the website/app. Letting them fill this form , I believe helps them take an action by making an immediate commitment ( and not have the idea/good-intention at the back of their mind and end up not doing anything ). But this entails someone from Brickworks community centre administering the response and being engaged. But eventually is that not the ultimate goal, to make brickworks community centre the hub where people can start community action groups and build their community.

NOTE THIS IN TERMS OF TEXT CHANGE

Hi, now that I've finally worked out how to use this... In terms of the front page of the App, it's much better now that it is Brickworks... it makes more sense. In terms of the wording, how about we have Brickworks Social Action Hub ... facilitating social action ...people working together for the good of others and not for profit.

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

NOTE THIS IN TERMS OF TEXT CHANGE

Under Start a Social Action Refer again to Brickworks being Brickworks Social Action Hub, then the text needs to be shorter/less wordy e.g. ...get connected ...be inspired ...join a call to action ...get trained as a community organiser

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

Sorry, my fault ... I missed out POVERTY from the list below

After our meeting today 11.10.18, we agreed the main headline themes as follows:

COMMUNITY SAFETY HEALTH AND WELLBEING INEQUALITY YOUNG PEOPLE

I want to find out about local social actions:

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

The Unemployment section reads too much like a service rather than a "call to action" if we are to have an unemployment section then this needs to focus on a campaign for local employers to provide local jobs, for providers of back to work support increase their level of support locally, etc

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

I know that this is just a prototype, but the wording of the pilot test version is critical - again, the Help with a CV part gives the wrong impression - social action is a "call to action" and not delivery of a service, which this part suggests.

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

The FAQs, again, need to focus on Brickworks being a Social Action Hub and questions might be "How to I connect with others with the same concerns?", "What is social action and how can I get involved?" "How can I get my neighbours involved?" "I want to make a difference, but just don't feel confident enough."

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

AS AGREED TODAY 11.10.18 - WE NOW HAVE THE TEN TOP TIPS, THIS CAN BE REPLACED WITH THAT OR DELETED?

Start a social action Can this be put forward in stages: Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Step 4:

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

Not sure what the Reading Togther part is

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

As a result of the meeting today 11.10.18, we agreed that there would be options for people to choose from in terms of next steps, and these should be:

  1. Connect with a Community Organiser
  2. Become a Community Organiser
  3. Book a meeting space at Brickworks Social Action Hub
Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

WE AGREED, that the Brickworks logo and colourways should be used so that the branding is tied into Brickworks as a local facility.

TEXT: I think I have provided feedback on the text that is on the App - see above comments.

PHOTOS: I am going to get some photos that you can use - hopefully some of them will be with you tonight... just need to check to see if any of them need permissions.

SOCIAL ACTION PROJECTS: we have identified four social action projects and will have descriptions of these with you by tomorrow:

  1. Crouch Hill Station Community Garden
  2. Tackling Hate Crime
  3. Bike Workshops
  4. Weapon Amnesty
Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

GDPR and Privacy Policy etc - there's a policy on the Brickworks website here: https://hanleycrouch.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/privacy-policy-hcca.pdf

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

Not sure what is meant by the question "What types of content/data will you give us?" So, can you clarify this for me, please. The same goes for "dummy data" - what do you want from us?

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

Having spoken with Colin it has been agreed that the Hanley Crouch / Brickworks website will be used and details of the person editing/maintaining and the host of the website will be confirmed by tomorrow.

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

FINAL TEXT EDIT Can you please send me an updated version of the App (with the text changes I have suggested incorporated) so that I can work on the text and get it back to you ASAP - I might be able to do this tomorrow if you are able to send me the changes early enough. Thanks

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

I have found a couple of resources (links to) that might be useful, if these can be used at all: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/591797/A_description_of_social_action.pdf

MissArray commented 5 years ago

@Joobiejoo

Thank you for all the information you put into the comments and I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to stay long enough to discuss and clarify all those points on the spot.

  1. The question 'What types of content/data will you give us?' refers to the point in the 'Notes', further up in this issue, which clarifies that The product owner is responsible for providing all content, i.e. copy and data. We are not copywriters, but we'll help with copy, if you like. All the text and all headings in the prototype are 'dummies' so as to make the prototype more realistic and easier for users to test and for your stakeholders to visualise. You, the product owners, tell us what text, what headings and what titles you want us to place in the pages we build for you. We'll do our best to help, if you'd like us to, but our schedule is too tight to allow us to serve also as copywriters. We're doing the coding and design, which is plenty of work, especially as we only clarified some key aspects of the MVP today and now need to concentrate on building them.

  2. 'Dummy data' means, if you don't have details of real social actions and if you don't have more detailed advice, downloadable leaflets and other online resources at this stage, please give us mock examples. All copy in the prototype you've seen is, in fact, mock text: the descriptions, headings, details etc. all serve as placeholders so that we have a good idea how to structure the app's pages.

  3. Thank you for clarifying that there will be a real person to receive and handle e-mails from users and for the link to your privacy policy, this helps greatly.

  4. Thank you also for the links to videos; we'll add them to the resources page. Your colleague, Amrik, will be adding more resources, as I understand, but if you'd like us to add any more at this stage, please send the relevant links, titles, and brief descriptions (e.g. Title: 'How I saved our park'; description: 'A video diary by Joe who stopped plans to turn the local green into a parking lot'

  5. With regard to your comment on 'final copy': as explained above in this comment and previously in the 'Notes', all text you see in the prototype, on which the app will be based, is dummy text or placeholder text. The prototype is just a series of slides with some links to mimic navigation. The text in the prototype could have been the usual 'lorem ipsum...' and the headings might have read 'Menu item 1, Menu item 2 ...', 'Social Action Title Goes Here' and so on. Whatever headings, titles text, images and links you give us will replace the placeholder items in the actual app.

I hope that all this makes sense?

START A SOCIAL ACTION

  1. I'd like to learn more about starting a social action 1a link to Ten Top Tips 1b link to Resources: pdfs and videos 1c link to register for Community Organisers training ??? 1d connect with a local Community Organiser

  2. I want to collaborate with others to build and promote my social action idea 2a taken to a link for a form that gives the option to a) hire a meeting space, b) list an event

  3. I want to train as a Community Organiser 3a taken to a link for Community Organiser training registration

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

TYPE OF SOCIAL ACTION .... I've listed this previously, but here we go again:

BrickworksN4 Social Action Hub provides support to get a number of social actions off the ground, most fall under the following headings:

  1. COMMUNITY SAFETY
  2. HEALTH AND WELLBEING
  3. INEQUALITY
  4. POVERTY
  5. YOUNG PEOPLE
Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

Under the Choose a type of social action, there's a list of options such as:

  1. Name
  2. Email address
  3. Confirm email address and then listed as 5. Connect with a community organiser or become a community organiser. I think that these are best as options under the Learn More About Social Action. We could also offer the same options for those who want to collaborate with others to build and promote their social action e.g. can we provide them with the option to see if they want to (a) connect with a community organiser to help them build and promote and/or (b) become a community organiser?
Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

FIND A SOCIAL ACTION

  1. Most social actions are on-going so we cannot simply list them as events, but we need to be able to list and describe the social actions in the area.
  2. Then, under those descriptions, is it possible to list any events linked to that particular social action, rather than have random lists of events?

It is my opinion that this flow is more logical and precise in terms of themes and interests.

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

INSPIRATIONAL STORIES

  1. I think this is fine as it is
Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

RESOURCES

  1. I have provided links to videos
  2. I have provided links to pdf resources
  3. I have provided the top ten tips

I think this is sufficient for now, thanks.

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

STARTER PACK ... we don't have a starter pack at the moment so I think we should just stick with the resources that we have. If we can put the STARTER PACK in there as a 'holding page' for future developement, then that's fine.

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

FACT SHEET I really like the idea of having downloadable fact sheets as a lot of people really don't know what key issues there are in Tollington and if someone is interested in social action then some of the facts and figures might compel them to start an action.

We don't have this for now, but if we can have this as a 'holding page' then that would be great!

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

FAQ "I am really concerned about changes to benefits and there's a number of families that are struggling financially, something really needs to be done about this, but I just don't know what to do and where to start."

"A lot of young people are disengaging from our community and it's a shame - there's no youth services or anything positive for them to do. I am willing to set something up for young people in the area, don't know what facilities are in the area that can be used."

"How does BrickworksN4 connect me with others who can help me develop my social action idea?"

"If I list my social action event, where does it appear?"

"How are my personal details that I am entering being used?"

"Will it cost me to hire a meeting space at Brickworks and am I limited to days of the week/times of the day?"

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

FAQ... I am aware that I have listed lots of FAQs above, but do we need to have the answers, too? If so, that is going to take a bit more time!

ANSWERS TO THE FAQs 17.10.18

FAQ1 How does Brickworks connect me with others? We have 20 trained Community Organisers who can help develop your idea, build connections with local people, and find others who are interested in the same social action idea as you.

FAQ2 I am really concerned about changes to benefits Yes, there's a lot of local people who are facing changes due to welfare reforms and we want to help local people find out more about what challenges people are facing and what can be done about it. Get in touch with us and we can put you in contact with a local people who have the same concerns. You can also use this App to find local social action campaigns/events in the area.

FAQ How can I get younger people to engage more in the community? We're already supporting local people to build social actions to help young people increase their connectivity to their local community. Take a look at our website to see what's currently on offer. If you've got a particular social action idea that you'd like to take forward, then get in touch and we can help you develop it further through one of our Community Organisers.

FAQ4 If I list my social action event, where does it appear? Your event can be listed through this App, which means all that are using the App will see your event. We will also list it on our website and through our social media, for examples, we can promote it via Twitter @BrickworksN4.

FAQ5 Will it cost me to hire a meeting space As we are developing Brickworks as a Social Action Hub we want to encourage local people to use the facilities this community centre offers. Brickworks is open seven days a week and from 08:00am through to 21:00 most days. We intend to offer the meeting space for free. Get in touch with us at Brickworks to find out more.

FAQ5 - the one about privacy is already answered via the privacy policy

Tollington Social Action example: IS THIS THE KIND OF THING THAT YOU WANT?

BrickworksN4 Tackling Hate Crime The team at BrickworksN4 social action hub are collaborating with key leaders in the Tollington area, local police and Islington Council to raise awareness of what Hate Crime is and how to tackle it. The social action first came about after the outcome of the Brexit vote, which immediately resulted in a spike in the number of hate crimes being reported. A hate crime is when someone commits a crime against you because of your disability, gender inequality, race, sexual orientation, religion or any other perceived difference. Types of hate crime include: physical assault, verbal abuse, incitement to hatred, for example. Most reported cases tend to be hate crime motivated by hostility towards race or ethnicity (67%), religion or belief (18%), sexual orientation (18%) and disability (10%). So far, our social action has resulted in 391 local workers, residents and voluntary sector workers being trained in recognising and helping support victims report a hate crime; this includes 95 people from Islington's homes and communities team, 48 in children's services; 16 local residents; 10 social landlords and 39 people from the local voluntary and community sector. 304 people have signed a Hate Crime Pledge to tackle Hate Crime in Islington.

Tollington Social Action example: New Weapons Disposal Bid for N4: In 2015, gun and knife crime was at all all-time high in Islington. Now, a pioneering programme - a dedicated policy gangs team and the Integrated Gangs Team is starting to make a difference, along with local social action projects within concerned communities.

Concerned about local gang culture, anti-social behaviour and weapons being hidden in local greespaces and on local estates, a growing group of local residents have joined the two-year-long campaign by St Mellitus Church along with local partners to undertake a weapons sweep of the area, and now, have been successful in securing a brand-new Weapons Disposal Bin outside of St Mellitus Church. The bin has been funded by Islington Council, local charities and individual dontations in a collective response to the fact that knife and gun crime is causing a tragic and wasteful loss of young lives.

St Mellitus and its local partners are organising a launch event at 11:45 on Sunday 28th October. In a short ceremony they will commemorate the lives of those lost and every concerned citizen is most welcome to attend.

INSPIRATIONAL STORY?????

Hanley Crouch Community Association (HCCA) has strong roots in social action and this culture of 'making a difference through social change' remains at our core - stimulating connectivity across our local community and feeding our sustainability. HCCA was first established in 1972 by a group of local residents who needed somewhere for their children to play - in a disused building that used to be a public laundry for people living on local estates, which was referred to locally and fondly as 'The Laundry'. Over the past forty years we have successfully facilitated provision of a diverse and inclusive multi-purpose community centre. Now, 'The Laundry' no longer exists but our commitment to grass-roots social action continues through our brand-new, purpose built community centre 'Brickworks'.

Even before moving into the building we have begun to foster local relationships, build a sense of power, purpose and capability - so that local people feel that they can make a difference in their neighbourhood. We are now working with Islington Council to explore how we can work more closely to involve local people in decision that inpact on where they live. We've also trained up 30 local Community Organisers, including local people, voluntary and community sector workers, and staff within the Homes and Communities team in Islington Council.

We are now supporting local people to develop their own social actions, to increase the sense of power and forge relationships with those providing public services to explore how local people can be more involved in local decision making and how they might better influence service provision.

INSPIRATIONAL STORY ???

Islington Council has chosen the ward of Tollington to explore and develop a 'Locality' initiative that aims to develop, define, and test the 'community' aspect of the Homes and Communities offer. A team of 11 staff from Homes and Communities and key local partner are engaging and collaborating to ensure that Homes and Communities are connected to and knowledgeable about the communities that they work in.

The first phase of 'Locality' has focused on Insights and Data Gathering, which has revealed some interesting facts and statistics and this combined with the engagement of local organisations, businesses and residents has identified some key areas of concerns linked to poverty, isolation and health and well-being, which are now the key focus for collective social action with Brickworks being developed, supported and promoted as the heart of the community.

SOCIAL ACTIONS BrickworksN4 Social Action Hub is making a difference to the lives of local young people by helping them learn new skills and build relationships with local police through bicycle maintenance sessions. Local young people aged 12-16 years old are encouraged and supported to come to Brickworks for six sessions and during the two hours that they are with us they learn how to repair punctures, replace broken cables and align gears and brake pads. The bicycles are donated by the local police and the young people get to keep the bike on successful completion of the course.

@sunuwars Hello, hopefully you can see all of the previous comments/text sent (Friday) and today, Sunday, along with the photos.

Joobiejoo commented 5 years ago

@sunuwars

Hello Both

I think that I have answered all questions and provided all the information now. We will be able to provide more Inspirational Stories and Social Action projects over time, but for now, we don't have more to add. However, it would be good to be able to show up to 10 at any one time.
