Anthony (Tony) He

How I get my best work done:

Clear and focussed aims in small chunks. Trying out random moments of inspiration or working solidly through a problem. Long focussed coding sessions with an engaged partner. I find it difficult to focus on code with a partner if they seem distracted as I'm worried I'm going to write something that I'll have to go back and try and explain or vice versa.

The role I usually take in a team:

Quiet and watchful with occasional good ideas

My communication style:

Short and to the point. My hearing isn't great so sometimes I struggle to hear properly, I also have a bad habit of mumbling/talking in a low register so if you can't hear me ask me to speak up!

I've also realised I have a tendency to ramble a bit, just tell me to be quiet.

What I value:

Honesty and sincerity. Being clear and direct + self-awareness

What people misunderstand about me:

If I'm quiet or seem uninterested I'm almost certainly listening intently. I have a very dry, dark, sarcastic sense of humour though I very rarely make jokes about people specifically. I also find it difficult if people are talking about other people in a negative way, I don't think this is healthy or useful (though I get it's cathartic).

How I like to get my feedback:

Clearly, immediately and unemotionally. Directly, I'd rather someone named me specifically rather than a pointed comment. I honestly don't mind and would prefer the chance to explain/defend myself.

Technical strengths & weaknesses:

Strengths:

Some prior Linux/terminal experience. SQL/Databases and some basic hardware knowledge.

Weakness:

Efficient (DRY) code.

Interests (programming or otherwise!):

Raspbian/Raspberry Pi, swing dancing, kickboxing, Dungeons and Dragons + board games, reading, guitar
