Career advice: continue freelancing vs preparing for interview and going for big4 #31

A community member asks anonymously:

" Should working for the Big 4 be the ultimate goal of a developer? I see my friends trying hard, working on their DS & Algo in order to crack their interviews. I also have the same opportunities but I am letting them go. Am I making a mistake?

I am making good money and name working as a freelancer and contractor for a few startups. I do not plan of having my own someday though. But still I'm tempted towards trying for those interviews sometimes.

Should I continue on this path or try for those Big 4? But giving them a shot strictly means I will lose contracts, contacts, name/fame whatever is coming for who knows how long. I will have to stop all my current dev work to focus on interview preparation. What should I keep in mind before making any decision?"

The grass is always greener on the other side. Now let's get to the point, just follow your heart. Do you love what you do? Do you've your peace of mind at the end of the day?

You can definitely try for an interview to get a first-hand experience. Later it'd be your call to whether to join or not. Life is full of trade-offs and you need to accept it.
