@imorakzai can you better describe what is the issue?

Yes when I run npx react-native run-ios in terminal then it start running but when it reach to some point it stop then it doesn't show me error Like I showed in the description above

Eprince-hub commented 12 months ago

Currently having the same issue, you must kill the server with Ctrl + C. If not, it just hangs at some point during the run.

I don't have a repro yet but i will add one if i set it up

@imorakzai, Can you confirm if the project this error is coming from is a mono repo project or not? I have the same problem with the same error messages, but my project is a mono repo project. I have a reproduction, but I want to ensure we have similar issues before I post it here. If not, I will start a new issue based on my problem. πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Eprince-hub commented 12 months ago

If you are still having this problem and your project is based on monorepo, then you can do the steps below to solve the problem

  1. Add watchFolders to your metro.config.js file watchFolders: [path.resolve(__dirname, '../../')],

  2. Add the following code to .xcode.env file

    export PROJECT_ROOT="$PROJECT_DIR/.."
    ../../../node_modules/react-native/scripts/react-native-xcode.sh
  3. Edit the path to the node_modules in your project.pbxproj file Search for node_modules/react-native/ and append ../../ to the ../ before each node_modules (It should be 4 in total) With the above path, I assume that your project is a monorepo with the following structure (ReproducerApp being your react native application), If not, then you need to add ../ to the path and test until pod can see your root node_modules

     |-react-native-app
       |- ios
       |- android

I have the same problem when I don't have any open simulators, and have an iPhone connected so it tries to open the app in the connected iPhone (xcode 15).

It does work if I already have an open simulator

I just resolved this issue by disabling ENABLE_USER_SCRIPT_SANDBOXING in the build settings in Xcode 15, it is present in Xcode 14 but disabled. You can also find workarounds here if you don't want to disable it. I hope this helps.

You might need to Remove node_modules Run pod deintegrate

And install your packages all over again.

Run your app on Xcode to get more specific errors

This error is related to variable name change in boost. Click fix and rerun your app. It should build if there’s no other error.

cipolleschi commented 11 months ago

Sorry to be late here. The problem you are facing should be handled by Cocoapods automatically.

  1. Make sure that the output of xcodebuild -version is something like:
     Xcode 15.1
     Build version ...

If it not, you can use sudo xcode-select -s /Application/<Xcode>/Contents/Developer to set it to the right path (replace <Xcode> with your current Xcode installation

  2. Navigate to your project folder
  3. Run yarn install to make sure to pull in all the files required, especially if you updated the project
  4. Cd-ing into the ios folder
  5. run bundle exec pod deintegrate to cleanup the cocoapods and the projects.
  6. run bundle exec pod install to make sure the new scripts run properly.

@fkazemi5236 @Eprince-hub @imorakzai @BrightDev1110 @charlieswing @rahmnn @adnen-chouibi: Points 1, 3 and 6 are especially important. Make sure that the toolchain you are using (step 1) is the same version of the Xcode you are using to build. Also, make sure to bring in all the right file when you update with yarn and to rerun pod install after upgrading.

@rahmnn @ScribbleTons πŸ‘‡

When you find the error No template named unary_function, please DO NOT CLICK ON FIX. That code is in a library: every time you reinstall the pods, that "fix" is lost.

Cocoapods should set the right flag in the build to make sure that you don't have that error. The function is invoked here and the fix is here.

You also have to make sure that your post_install step in the Podfile invokes react_native_pod_install as we show in the Template

@Eprince-hub Monorepo setup are not officially supported, but we are working on that.

I just tried a new app from the template and it works properly, with no errors

adnen-chouibi commented 11 months ago

I encountered the same issue, but I managed to resolve it. I'd like to share my experience with you in case you come across a similar problem.

First, I created a new blank project, and it worked perfectly with no issues. After that, I installed all the packages I needed for my project, and it continued to run smoothly.

Just to give you some context, I used the Expo module specifically for Expo WebBrowser and Expo Auth-Session. The problem show up again when I tried to manually configure the Expo module in the Podfile, and the build got stuck at "➜ Implicit dependency on target..."

To resolve this issue, I removed the Expo module and integrated an alternative to Expo WebBrowser with the same code base. This workaround worked effectively for me.

fundamentally, the problem was related to the configuration I added to the Podfile. You can find the code that caused the issue in this link: https://docs.expo.dev/bare/installing-expo-modules/#configuration-for-ios

AngelRmrz commented 11 months ago

I tried the solution that @cipolleschi mentioned, however I followed the following steps:

  1. Remove the node_modules
  2. Reinstall all dependencies
  3. cd to ios/folder
  4. I ran the command bundle exec pod deintegrate
  5. I ran the command bundle exec pod install
  6. I ran the command pod install

However, I still have the same log error described above, something I noticed was that the id that the xcode workspace points to is that of my physical device, I would appreciate any help

Abdumaliks commented 11 months ago

I have already tried all the solutions listed above, but I couldn’t solve the problem. Do you have any other ideas?

rahmnn commented 11 months ago

@Abdumaliks @AngelRmrz

Above solution worked for me.

  1. Remove the node_modules
  2. Reinstall all dependencies
  3. cd to ios/folder
  4. pod deintegrate
  5. pod install

Majorly I was using react-native version 0.71.7, Had to switch to 0.71.14

I was looking for Update Xcode 15 patches to be more robust in https://github.com/facebook/react-native/releases. Try updating your react-native version to the closest xcode 15 path.

AngelRmrz commented 11 months ago

The only way to fix it that I could find was to force the simulator to launch by modifying the Β΄package.jsonΒ΄ and the Β΄node_modulesΒ΄ folder

Modify the node_modules Folder

If you are using a terminal that is not the one integrated into your system, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Open the node_modules folder in the root of your project.

  2. Find the launchPackager.command file and right click on it.

  3. Select the "Open with" option and choose your default terminal.

Indicate the iOS Device to Emulate

When you want to build the project in the iOS simulator, you need to specify the device you want to emulate. If not specified, the system may use a default device or cause registry errors due to the presence of multiple devices.

To indicate the iOS device you want to emulate, follow these steps:

  1. Open the package.json file in the root of your project.

  2. Find the script "start:ios," which is used to start the app in the iOS simulator.

  3. Modify the script to include the name of the device you want to emulate, as shown below:

    "start:ios": "npm run ios -- --simulator='Device Name'",

Be sure to replace `Device Name' with the actual name of the device you want to use. You can get the list of available devices by running the following command in the terminal:

    xcrun simctl list devices

Use the desired device name instead of 'Device Name'.

I hope this workaround helps you :shipit:

@fkazemi5236 I'm on Xcode 15.1 and just tried to:

npx react-native init AwesomeApp --version 0.72.6 --skip-install
cd AwesomeApp
yarn install
cd ios
bundle install
bundle exec pod install
cd ..
yarn ios

(which is what the CLI would do)

And it built successfully.

What error are you facing?

sarvardev commented 10 months ago

I had tried everything mentioned above but nothing worked. But had success with the below steps:

What worked for me is to build the project by opening ios/.xcworkspace file in Xcode, resolve any issues that are returning by Xcode.

Once the build is successful from Xcode, running the app from npm run start method no longer produces the same issue.

zergmk2 commented 10 months ago

I've met the same issue. After searching for several hours, I discovered that the terminal had become stuck. If I manually open the app on my iPad, the process will resume, and the debugger will be attached.

Abdumaliks commented 10 months ago

@sarvardev I managed to solve the problem, this solution really work

joshuamiller commented 9 months ago

I'm pretty sure this error is actually lots of different errors which are being swallowed by npx react-native start truncating the error output. You can either reveal the full error log in XCode or by running npm run ios.

In my case, the error was that I had a .xcode.env.local that exported a NODE_BINARY location that was in an old temp folder which I solved by deleting it.

DannyRoberts22 commented 9 months ago

I agree with @joshuamiller above, this is caused by multiple errors and running the build in Xcode is the best way to see what is really happening. In my case I had to in Xcode Open target -> Build phases > Copy Bundle Resources and remove a bunch of duplicated font files from react-native-vector-icons.

This https://stackoverflow.com/questions/50718018/xcode-10-error-multiple-commands-produce helped me resolve it.

redefinered commented 8 months ago

Fixed this by reinstalling pods npx pod-install or cd ios && pod install

mauroiemboli commented 8 months ago

Hello everyone,

after run the code with npm run ios I actually saw the entire log. So I had this error:

PhaseScriptExecution [CP-User]\ Generate\ Specs /Users/userName/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/reactnativetsappstoryx-aucrpdgqgdtwmjhbiwgphcsqvzhb/Build/Intermediates.noindex/Pods.build/Debug-iphonesimulator/React-rncore.build/Script-46EB2E0001EDB0.sh (in target 'React-rncore' from project 'Pods') (1 failure)

UPDATE Solved by removing blank space from project path

redefinered commented 8 months ago

I experience this every once in a while I'm still not sure why but I resolve this with reinstalling pods with "npx pod-install" from the root of RN project
