This method also works in outdoor. One only needs the calibrated stereo data to train on. The improvements compared with MonoDepth2 baseline depend on how important the structures are in those scenes to indicate depth. The method is used to address complex structures and arbitrary camera views so its improvements are prominent in indoor cases.
