Can the fairseq-13b model be used commercially? Which license applies? #4403

Hi,

Regarding the models listed here https://github.com/pytorch/fairseq/tree/main/examples/moe_lm the model card and NOTE file included with the models say "Models are intended for research use only". Does this mean that they aren't covered by the same MIT license as the fairseq repo?

Specifically for the dense_13b model : which license applies and can this be used commercially?

In any case thank you for a great paper and sharing the code and models!

I think it is used commercially here but this may be a special agreement between Fabrice Bellard and the research team of fairseq: https://textsynth.com/

Also, thanks from my side @stephenroller for the huge amount of work you have made available to all of us!

One question:

I understand the limitations of this technology and that you can't make OPT-175B available for commercial purposes. How about, though, making the small models (e.g. with <= 2.7B parameters) available under a similar license like Bloom ?

Considering the limited capabilities of the small models and their wide availability, it might be a net positive for the research community if you do so. Such a move would allow scientists from more corporations to work on your models.

Fyi, I am referencing you since you had responded in https://github.com/facebookresearch/metaseq/issues/34
