It may seem like extra effort now, but if you keep practising it will become a natural thing to do and you wont have to think about it. Plus it really helps tracing what work happened, why it was done, who contributed to it, and so on. This can be useful for project managers, but also for developers who come on to a project after it has already begun.

Feel free to close this after your whole team has read it.
