If you feel confident, you can try this deb installer.

Pay attention:
  - Is a development version of VLCShares 0.5.5 (may be unstable)
  - The installer seems to work fine, but you'd be the first meter (except for me)
  - It may rape your cat, kill your neighbor, ask for an alien invasion, burn your house ...
  - Only works on UBUNTU 11.10
