Enhancement request: split layout (aka "thumbs layout") #423

I'm not sure if this would be covered by
https://code.google.com/p/hackerskeyboard/issues/detail?id=13 but I think not.

Would it be possible to introduce a split layout. That is, split the keyboard
into three columns, left, middle and right, with keys present in the left and
right columns, but not the middle. This layout is often presented as a
convenience or landscape tablet users to type with only their thumbs.

I have not been able to find a vendor-independent reference for this approach,
but I think this MS Windows-related article demonstrates the difference
clearly:
http://www.windowslifestyle.com/windows-8-touch-keyboard-thumb-keyboard-effectiv
ely/

I'm not sure what to suggest about potentially losing extra keys (which is of
course the point of Hacker's Keyboard).

There is *potential* interaction with issue #13 if users wanted to implement
KALQ layout -- http://people.mpi-inf.mpg.de/~oantti/KALQ/

I would like this as well, my hands hurt from using a 10" tablet and hackers
keyboard :(

Swiftkey has a great implementatio. Of this (although they could have done
better)
