Like in Smarthome applications, the ripple frequency? of power supplies can be used in order to identify each unique device and to see its power drain.
This probably could be a good topic for a diploma/bachelor/master thesis
A gnuradio Block could do the fourier transformation to:
Show which ripple frequencies are available
allow to set "device labels" on specific frequencies (or set the labels only on each sink ?)
send the current energy consumption of each device to a sink, so that it can be used in FESA
