Battery drain. #86

Closed ahmadmustafa96 closed 1 month ago

ahmadmustafa96 commented 2 months ago

Build used

Lineage-20.0-20240416-UNOFFICIAL-zeroltexx.zip

Model number

SM-G925F

Describe the bug

When I charge my phone completely, I boot it up and the drain at idle is insane.

With stock ROM Android 7, I got about 5hours of screen time and a mad standby time. But with the LineageOS 20 I am getting about 3 hours of screen on time and absolutely no standby time.

Maybe something is draining the battery.

To Reproduce

It just happens as soon as you start the phone and leave it. Just drains the battery.

Any extra info

No response

Lots of things can drain a battery - sensors, CPU, GPU, video encoding, usage habits etc. Without the stats, there is nothing that I can really do to determine the issue. I would just be blindly guessing.

I would need something like betterbatterystats info, adb shell dumpsys batterystats, wakelock info, battery current when idle, something of that effect.

Hey Just curious.. is 9% battery drain in ~8 hours standby (98% to 89) considered normal?

Some info: -I'm using latest LineageOS 20 build -battery saver off -stock kernel

Its worth knowing that my battery isn't new and Fairly used, i'd say its in good state.

I can provide betterbattery stats logcat if necessary because im just curious like i said about others standby time.

Depends on how worn out your battery is. I get 0.5-0.6%/hr with a relatively healthy battery (replaced). Check with AccuBattery to see the real mAh rating of your battery (mine is approx 2300mAh). Will take a couple of charge cycles to get an accurate readout

Hello, I apologise for the late response, I haven't been on my computer lately.

Unfortunately I had to migrate back to the stock Samsung ROM due to the battery issue.

Additionally, my battery is a brand new unit, I just replaced the old one. With this battery the life I get on the Stock ROM is marginally better than LineageOS 20.

Though I want this LineageOS build to improve and become daily drivable so I will install LineageOS again and provide you the information you require shortly.

By the way, I appreciate your work fakemanoan. Not a whole lot of options for the S6 Edge out there.

Cheers!

So after testing and couple charge cycles (6 sessions) i found out that my battery isn't in that great shape.. Apparently battery health is like 80% with estimated capacity of 2050 mAh So the 9% battery drain seems reasonable imo

Hello

I installed betterbatterystats application and gave it all the permissions it needed via ADB. I have been running it in the background for about 3 days which is since I last replied. But unfortunately for some reason it does not measure anything? I am not getting any measurements, no battery stats, no wakelock info nothing. :(

I will look into this issue shortly but to not waste time, I will share the dumpsys info here.

The dympsys info-

Current Battery Service state: AC powered: false USB powered: true Wireless powered: false Max charging current: 460000 Max charging voltage: 5000000 Charge counter: 0 status: 2 health: 2 present: true level: 100 scale: 100 voltage: 4274 temperature: 286 technology: Li-ion

It status and health as 2 because I only charged it twice since. I forgot to charge it for a day :P

Greetings!

I installed thew new release of LineageOS 20 20240517 and the battery drain has been improved by a mile! It's been 24 hours and the battery has gone from 100% to 60% only. Earlier in this time period it would've just died.

It is not good as the stock ROM but it is a massive improvement!

I will close this thread now, there might be little tweaks to even improve the battery further but the majority of the battery drain has been fixed.

Epic work Fakemanoan!
