This is hopefully a bit more in spirit of what you intended as a README for the github page. Unlike my last attempt, this doesn't touch the manpage or Makefile.

Thanks again for getting this started!

Looks pretty good overall. Is it possible to wrap it at 80 columns without breaking the markdown?

Reading this a bit later/less excitedly, this definitely needs a) cleaner explanation of the commands/default behavior of the program, b) a clean explanation of the recent string matching changes, and c) a semicolonectomy. I'll reopen this when I'm done; sorry for being overly excited over silly documentation.
