Sourceforge links broken / no binaries #352

Open Techognito opened 2 years ago

Techognito commented 2 years ago

It would be nice to be able to download a compiled version of all the apps.

The links for the apps doesn't work, and I get a 404 error.

ShamelessWizard commented 1 year ago

Any download site would be nice...

I installed through this link (debian)

https://kx.studio/Applications:Cadence

Where it says Debian/Ubuntu (via KXStudio repositories)

E: yeah not working

clairewiwi commented 1 year ago

Has anyone found a working link to install cadence on ubuntu?

Sadly the old 32bit Windows binary links are still broken too (sourceforge seem not to host them no more) and there are no alternatives yet foundable in the web. This project in combination with JACKaudio for windows (available) could be a real interesting alternative to proprietary bridging tools for bridging for example MixBus (Ardour) with proproetary software like ProTools or for previewing and other routing tasks. A friend of mine brought this up for me again and I remember that I already did this years ago.

Apart from that, compiling workflows or minimal guides for compiling the source code package are maybe needed here, so someone can chime in to provide new compiled Windows binaries. I would do it, but not without minimum recommendations and some readable guides since any compile job has its own flaws best known by the creators of the source code.

cadence for configuring jack never worked on windows, it needs jackdbus which does not (and will not) work on windows, or macOS for that matter.

the deletion of old binaries is intentional, I got rid of a few old sourceforge stuff, but then forgot to update the site to match. website update is long over due, I will try to get to it still this year.

@falkTX thanks for chiming in on this. Very much appreciated. I think it is a misunderstanding here, since I just followed the conversations from before talking about the whole cadence package. But my comment was actually only referring to parts/tools of it which are now in separated packages, as it says. If I remember correctly, I used to make Catia work on Windows some years ago as a cable patchbay between Harrison MixBus (Ardour) and Pro Tools successfully via JACK and if I do not remember wrong (was a very hard working time all night and day those days) we both already chatted about it back in that days. Not sure if it was on the Ardour or JACK channel or somewhere else. Yeeeears agooo. I am pretty sure it was Catia and not any other tool. But since it is some time ago I can not remember the JACK setup for Windows no more. A friend of mine brought this up again and now I am interested too if it still works. So, in the moment I deeply try to reproduce it for testing purposes.

There is a video link exactly talking about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzd7naKzRgw

Can you give a temporary dl link for the Windows binary of Catia or does anyone else has a link or compiled Windows version so that a friend of mine can go on with his testing?

the deletion of old binaries is intentional

Oh I misread that in a rush, sorry. So you do not want them to be available? If so, I would fully understand that. But, sorry for being so sticky on this: We run many Linux machines here in favour against the other OS, but also some Mac/PC machines in the studios for compatibility with other studios and for running Pro Tools etc. As I sad: a friend of mine who found that link on Youtube who is interested in this and who brought it actually up on me again :) found the link I provided above. Is there a way to compile Catia latest source tarball for Windows? Are you interested in somebody making them and providing the links? Or are you rather not interested in Windows binaries provided no more for the project?
