[Feature request] Managing the overwhelming number of plugins #99

In the hardware era you would carefully select your hardware audio units, bet it synths of effects and get to know them very well and in the process discard those you don't like. Today we are very fortunate to have access to many plugins and synths for virtually no cost but something has been lost in the process : the choice of discarding those you don't like. To solve this, there should be a filter in place to allow to show either all available plugins, only favorites plugins or all non discarded plugins. This way you could mark your favorite plugins, or the plugins you want to discard and stick to the filter that suits you best. For example : if you don't like filters, you stick to "all". if you don't like change, you stick to "favorites" if you don't want to see too much plugins but don't want to miss new ones, you stick to "non-discarded"

Another use case would be to be able to keep only the variant of the same plugin that suits you (like if you have a plugin 3 times : ladspa, lv2 , vst and want to keep only the LV2 version).

What do you think ?

+1

YES! This would be a really awesome feature. There is a lot of plugins I would never EVER use (like waveform generators intended for modular synths) that get installed in a bundle with things I use all the time.. this would be amazing

Perhaps one step further would be user-defined tags, instead of just one generic "favorites" tag. Then the user could tag plugins with multiple tags if they wanted (even if plugins could only have one tag, it would be better than only one favorites category)

Great idea!

Custom tags is brilliant ! This way you could have your reverbs, your delays, your synths, or whatever way of categorizing things you like at your fingertips. If each new tag is a new checkbox, you could have a select all/deselect all options for quick change of tag filters. Even with this, a discard/hide plugin would be a plus (with an option in the configuration dialog to show hidden plugins as a backup in case you want to unhide a plugin)

I like the way the Reaper plugin browser allows you to organize plugins in custom collections/virtual folders.
