DL randomly stops creating/accepting shortcuts #346

I found out that using Fossify Phone and Fossify Contacts it is possible to create shortcuts to individual phone numbers and contacts. DL adds them to the app list and it is possible then to add them to the favourites. I find this very handy, as it allows me to have icons in the home screen from which I can call my favourite numbers with just one click. However, for some reason sometimes DL stops creating the shortcuts. If I save the settings, remove and reinstall DL and load the settings again, then DL restarts creating the shortcuts. Just in case someone has some idea on how to fix this.

Additional info. It seems that the misbehaviour starts after a restart of the phone.

Thank you for the report, I really have no idea of what is happening or what could fix it :-/

Actually I am surprised it works at all because creating contact shortcuts was never developed in Discreet Launcher! This is probably using the process implemented for creating web app shortcuts, but as it was not planned for this may indeed lead to unexpected results.

I will try to have a look but this process was quite complex to develop (poor Android documentation, significant behavior changes around Android 8) and it was years ago so I won't make any promises...

Hi Falzonv, nice to have you back! Just a few things I found out in the meantime, for your information. Actually, it is not necessary to reinstall DL to get the shortcut creation working again. It is sufficient to change the default home app to another one and then back to DL and everything works again. At least as long as the phone is not restarted. Second thing. There is the same problem with Fossify Launcher/Home, and maybe also other launchers. The Fossify group is quite active at the moment and I reported the issue to them as well. I will let you know if they find any solution. Maybe it could be implemented also in DL. And, last thing, please do not be jealous if from time to time I temporarily use also other launchers. Every time I do, I appreciate even more how clean and efficient DL is. It remains by far my favourite launcher! 😄
